I am trying to identify this engine from a 67 Convertible that I purchased several months ago. (I know many parts are not original in it).
It looks like there was new engine ID tag over the original one. I can tell it is a single port engine, but wondering if anyone has seen this type of tag before. From the Engine ID post, maybe the B identifies it as a 69-70 1600 single port?
Any thoughts? Thanks (VW Newbie)
Pic from tag...

yep, that's a VEGE tag, most likely a single port 1600 |

The numbers 429448 are surprisingly well stamped into the band. German font just like the original engine numbers, evenly spaced, not crooked, uniform stamping depth, and level. Must've had a good fixture to imbed the numbers into the band. Too bad the band itself is tilted... |

Thanks for the information. Looking at past posts, seems that reviews on the verge are mixed.
Engine runs well, and doesn't leak, so I'll just enjoying and keep it tuned. |
