made good progress over the last couple of days,
now have the bulkhead panel nearly done and started to make the corner pieces to jion it to the door pilliars, heres some pics.
really happy with how its came out, before i start the floors and trans tunnel i am going to get the rear wheel tubs made as the floors will tie into them so i need to get them done first. |

Is that going to be a "bolt in" panel? Just wondering where your steering column bit are going to pass thru. Looks good though. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

all the panels will be welded on once there all done.
bobnotch,
the steering goes through at a funny angle so it will pass through the bulkhead nearer the trans tunnel.
been a very busy week this week, got a lot done. first up was to make the rear wheel tubs.
started off by making some wooden templates to help form a rounded edge.
from this to this
then made up the tubs 17" wide to allow for trimming and fitted them in place.
then made up the centre panels to cover the inner chassis rails.
had to cut more into the body to get more wheel clearance to fit the tubs.
bit more to do with the rear panels and then i am on the main floor sections. |

folded up some channels, welded some 6mm thick by 50mm wide strip inside them and drilled and tapped them and these are the seat mounts.
im using mazda mx5 seats as they mount nice and low and are really compact.
i have also got the connection from the steering rack to the bulkhead done but before i connect that to the column i need to weld all the floors into the shell but again i cant do that untill i get the lower seat belt mount in as with the floors in i wont be able to weld them fully in.
more soon |

Are you really tall? Just asking, as it seems like the seats are sitting quite a ways back. It might just be the camera angle too. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

the seats are slide back, they will slide forward on the runners.
few pics from the last couple of days.
made up some rear inner panels, these still boxes welding in to take the seat belts.
audi tt handbrake fitted.
trimmed the rear wheel tubs which took forever
got the rear wings to fit but the tubs still need a little trimming but i think i will leave that untill its all welded. |

had a few days to get stuff done and made some really good progress.
had a list of jobs that wanted doing before i could cut it off the jig.
all the floors done, body mounts done, seat belts done, front shock mounts done, rear shock mounts done, and the front wings primered.
ride height is pretty spot on with ground clearance being 5" under the centre of the fassty.
fassty comes off the jig on sunday, more pics soon. |

thanks for the comments,
took a bit of doing today but i managed to get the body of and get the chassis on its wheels on the floor, bolted the engine and box in place and it sits how i had planned it so thats a big thumbs up.
while chassis is body free i got the body mount brackets welded up.
while the body is off i may as well sort out some of the welding thats wants doing on the under side. |

Fantastic work as always. I do have to say, one of the coolest things (for me) is how natural the add 6" to the front looks now that it's all one color. It doesn't have that weird stretched look. Very cool.
Also, What are the seats out of that you have mocked up in there? _________________ 1971 Squareback, fully bagged, 1776.

after a bit of welding on the inner sills it was time to sit the body on to see how it looked.
the most important thing about this car to me is the stance, it has just got to be right and as you can see from the pics its about spot on. |

Yeah that looks pretty sick brother. Nice attention to detail with that stance. I thought in the end that stretched front would look weird, but it doesn't. Looks killer.
Nice to be able to see what was going on in your head all this time. Keep it up and you'll be in all the mags for sure! _________________
