The later model FI fan shroud has a velocity ring on them... So would it help the non dog house shroud cooling if the velocity ring was mounted to it.
Has anyone tried this. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I sure it would help.
Porsche 356/912 4 cylinder engines had a ring around the fan intake on the shroud that was similar. _________________ Joseph

I don't see why this couldn't be fitted to a regular shroud. Maybe give them a call and make sure there is not an issue before purchasing it.

I can't see why it wouldn't work on a non DH, it dropped my oil temps significantly on the bus.
Edit: It may be a bitch to mount though, the inlet profile is different on a non DH shroud, it may require some science to find the exact distance to make it work, too far in and it may become the same as the thermostat ring on stale air engines, but in a bad way. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Well I haven't encountered the correct conditions to perform a real test yet, but overall so far I'm going to say ~20 degrees lower. Since installing it last fall I have yet to reach any temps close to the freakout zone, but I also haven't gone further than 20 miles @ 65-70 on a 80*+ day since I put it on. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Well see I have the fuel injected fan shroud in possession. So the options for me would be convert the non dog house to a dog house a lil more expensive as need to do the oil cooler conversion, redrill the location of the accelerator cable tube, and obtain the remaining ducting sheet metal. Or remove the velocity ring and install it on the non dog house shroud.
Am glad to see the temps go down. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Why not be the first one to try out the velocity ring on a non dog fan shroud?
The last time I checked, FI fan shrouds are not rare or hard to come by.
Velocity rings are also available new from this vendor.
