The O2 readings were checked before and after catalyst. No change was found indicating no back pressure in catalyst. |
As far as I know, there is no way to use an O2 sensor reading to see if a cat is plugged. Yes, they can be used to determine if it's working [ie efficient]. |
Plugged? I'm not sure what that means. From what I was told (or as I understand it), the reading was the same before and after the cat -- say 50 grams (not saying those were the readings).

On the final report, two of the three original codes remained. |
If two of the three codes are still in the computer memory, like a hemorrhoid that flares in the night, the CEL WILL be back. |
I don't know any codes were left in memory. They were cleared for each subsequent test, and it got down to one code. The last solution seemingly did the trick. I can't imagine after doing all of that they wouldn't have cleared the memory one more time.
At any rate, drove 200 miles today for an out-of-town funeral. No CEL. And a joy to drive. I will be commuting to work the next three days, so that should be around another 400 miles. You mentioned it in your previous post. I'm just saying, I do not know a way to use O2 sensors to test for a plugged catalyst.
The O2 sensors should not read the same before and after a catalyst either. The only way I know that could happen is if they are both faulty. |

I don't know how to respond or what question to relay back as I still don't know what a "plugged catalyst" is.
The O2 sensor was replaced.
I'm teleworking today and tomorrow after all. Still, I have driven nearly 450 miles since getting Beetle back -- some in energetic mode and some hunkering down in the slow lane at 65 cruise control. Oil change due in 1,200 miles at 60k. That's when I can relay my next set of questions.
Thanks. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI
