I love the idea of counter weighting the crank. With a properly balanced crank, pistons and con rods, a 36er would spin up very nicely. I bet just these simple mods and nothing else would give you another 10% more power, make it last longer and give better fuel economy. I think you would have to do a little first year physics math to calculate how much material to take off the flywheel to keep the reciprocating mass the same with the new counterweights added.
Keep it up, I'll be watching and waiting till dyno day to see what this little mill makes.

Rekeyed some reproduction door handles to work with an original key code from the ignition switch. Also did a T handle for the deck lid. that was much easier then the door handles.
First I had to drill the rivet end to remove the pin to disassemble the handle
Next is the hardest part. Removing the roll pin that holds the lock cylinder in. I used a series of small drill bits and picks to extract it.
I Inserted the key that i wanted to use before pulling out the lock cylinder. Then took a file and filed down the brass slats flush with the lock cylinder.
Reinstalled the lock cylinder and put a new roll pin in that I picked up at ace hardware. Then staked the roll pin so it will not come out.
Finally I used a roll pin that I got from ace hardware to assemble the handle. The holes needed to be enlarged so the roll pin slid through. I left one hole in the bezel smaller so the roll pin could grab and not fall out. Then cut the pin flush
It works perfect and now everything uses the same key. _________________ 71 ghia coupe: Build thread http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=511738&highlight=

Nice work on the wipers, what paint did you use?
I've heard Wurth Silver is a good match but I haven't tried it. |
EB, do you know the paint code for the Wurth Silver?
If the shade on those wiper arms is a match. I need some better silver than what WW sells for my bumper supports. _________________ I have learned over the years.

I used krylon metallic aluminum (2766). I matched it to the reproduction blades. It is pretty close. The reproduction blades are a little brighter silver. |
Awesome. That is so close to the 67 bumper support color.
I'm gonna get a couple cans from HD.
My supports are rusted through the paint from WW.
Thanks for posting the paint code. _________________ I have learned over the years.

Looking great Scotty! Keep on, keeping on!!!
I know that all of these tasks you are tackling will soon be my tasks to complete. Thanks, in advance, for the knowledge! _________________ Jimbo

Being a non-expert in such things, I am surprised to see that Wolfsburg West didn't attempt to reproduce their part to appear more accurate: the OE arms have asymmetric lobes on the blade clevises, where WW's are symmetrically rounded. Weird

What was the pre-paint surface prep on the arms and blade bits?
Edit: I see that you bought new blade holders.
The Krylon 2766 is advertised as an all in one paint. Prime, coat, and finish.
I'm gonna blast my parts and paint them. Unless you have a better idea Scotty.
