Is there somewhere a person does a complete high performance build on a 36 Hp? I am very curious about all the upgrades someone could do to make large reliable horsepower out of a 36er.

Contact Mr.Okrasa https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=741740

Also spend some time in the vintage speed forums. Lots of good info there.

Installed the engine. It was a very tight fit. Fabricated a header out of 1 3/8” stainless steel pipe and a muffler out of 1 3/4”. I wanted the exhaust to exit out the stock location and no performance 36hp exhaust is like that. Got all the exterior lighting installed along with a few other trim pieces. Front and rear empi gravel guards. Empi headlight eyebrows and acc tail light peaks.

That first short sentence probably involves hours of work... Engine looks fantastic! What was your technique to get the engine in with or without the SG OKRASA manifolds? Both off, then install fan shroud in car, 1 side off, shroud loose; or...?

Really impressive fabrication of your exhaust system. It'll be "The Mouse that Roared" (title of a classic movie).

I sent you a pm.

Getting my 40 horse back in was tough with leaving the heater boxes on... I'd expect almost a short block going in would be the best if anything bigger than a stock 36 going back in

I left 3/4 manifold on, the shroud bolted in place, the generator/fan off and 1/2 manifold off. I had to tip the engine a little to clear 3/4 manifold. With the generator and fan out I was able to get to that 3rd manifold nut to install 1/2 manifold. But now I have a problem with installing the spark plugs. The socket is to big and does not fit between the manifold and tin on number 1 and 4 and is very tight on 3 and 2. Working on finding a solution for this.

Windshield is from JBugs. Wheels were powder coated. Front is stock 4in wheels with 155/60/15 continental pro contact tires. Rear are 5.5 wide with 185/65/15 in the same brand. I think I will get some wheel spacers for the rear to space them out some. I installed empi trim rings and atlas 2in whitewall inserts. I will install hubcaps after I know the wheels don’t have to come off. The exhaust looks good coming out the stock cutouts. Also installed a tachometer from air cooled accessories and a cruiser pedal. Waiting on rear bumpers to be in stock at ww. The ride height is about where it will be, only had to adjust the rear once. Im sure it will settle some with the weight of the interior.

WOW!!!!

How does it run? Did it go around the block under its own power?

Video of maiden voyage?

It looks great! Are you adding hub caps or leaving as is?

The engine is running good. I have not gone around the block yet. I need to get a seat installed first. Hub caps will be added when I know I don’t have to take the wheels off again.

Thanks guys.

I got a birth certificate for the car. It took 3 weeks to receive. It is a USA spec car with cloth interior. I wanted to get it to verify interior before I ordered it. Interior is on order now.

That’s a nicely detailed Birth Certificate! I especially like the “whiper-motor”! Funny stuff!

Looks great Scotty. Really like the stance. Is your front end narrowed? How much lower is the rear, and how did you determine how much length to add to the arms?

Front end is narrowed 2 inches. The rear is lowered about 3 inches. A lot of research and reading on here and I determined the common length added was 1/2 inch. The holes are also slotted for some adjustability.
