This is an original 58 silo fridge westy, I found it back in 08 in Ridgecrest ca at county line auto salvage. I've been rubbing through the terrible paint to reveal the of palm green sand green. I've been lucky enough to find most of an og left rear cabinet and a partial repop rear bench and table.
If you have more parts and pieces please don't be affraid to pm me. I also need as many reference pictures you're willing to post, I did scour the gallery and threads. _________________ 58' pg/sg silo fridge westy

Well while packing up my parts hoard I realized I have the correct date coded engine case for my bus!
I've been hauling this case around for years and never checked the engine code lol

Nice Westy! It doesn't get much better than a pg/sg subhatch in my book. The wheels you found for it look perfect. Cool that you've got that engine. Looking forward to following along. _________________ Brandon |

Nice to meet you at Prado! I found this in another thread, looks like there were at least two 58' Subhatch Westy's in Ridgecrest:

Hated the 'wooden' westy interior, ripped it all out and threw it in the dumpster. damn looking back that was really stupid...lol |

Nice piecing it together... having a tent is key!
Number next to the month is for the last VIN/engine produced that month.
Ref. - see the first sentence under "Bus VIN / Chassis Numbers" text on the linked page.
Numbers I added to make the linked info more clear are in red.
1958
Month ...VIN ....Engine
Jan 31 324344 2206943
Feb 28 332599 2252831
Mar 01 332600 2252832
Mar 31 341227 2300862
Your bus & engine were made the first week in March.

Tim, your bus is coming together. Nice to see you have found some of the interior and a tent. Curious what poles came with it?
You did very well sourcing that engine case; I would be more than happy with how close a match that is to the chassis number.
Did you find that ambulance step at the show as well?
If you need a tent pole bag I would definitely buy one of Jaeck's reproductions; they are awesome. _________________ WANTED:

Me too.
For shits & giggles... nothing too serious....
March of '58 had 21 Mon-Fri days. One holiday, but it fell on a Saturday.
8,627 buses built over the 21 work days (assuming VW took Sat/Sun off?)
48,030 engines built over the 21 work days
8,627/21 = 411 buses per day
48,030/21 = 2,287 engines per day
Tim's bus = 333955
1st week chassis numbers:
Day 1: 332600 to 333011
Day 2: 333012 to 333423
Day 3: 333424 to 333835
Day 4: 333836 to 334247
Tim's engine = 2254557
1st week engine numbers:
Day 1: 2252832 to 2257406
So, maybe your bus started to be built on Thursday, March 6th & the engine was built on Monday, March 3rd.
If you get the Birth Cert... post up your info! _________________ aka: Evan

sub-hatchtim, it's great that you now put a thread together with photos located in the samba gallery so they stay put. You have had this westy for a while so glad she is now your working camper.
Keep this thread going.

Thank you, it took me a little while to figure out how the gallery worked lol
I definitely will keep the thread updated as I make progress but unfortunately as you're well aware 58 specific parts don't come up for sale very often. _________________ 58' pg/sg silo fridge westy
