Like a lot if you, I do my own work on the Van (and all my rigs, actually). I am always bursting at the seams for tool storage, and when you get a couple projects going it can be frustrating. So for Christmas, I asked for a big rolling tool chest, hoping someone would have one on sale because I'm not dropping $500 on one of those.
Wahoo, it happened. Home Depot has their 46" wide model for $199. I measured and it j-u-s-t fits under the workbench with about 1 CM to spare. It also has a hardwood work surface and a 1200lb capacity - perfect for you guys to toss a WBX onto it for some serious work up high off the ground where you can see and work. I think its on sale for a few days yet:
I put it together last night and shoved it under. It's empty and this weekend I will get the shop organized and fill those drawers. I bet I will be 15% faster now that it's easy to put things back during a project, so I'm not looking for the 13MM gearwrench, or the special Vanagon drain plug Allen tool, etc. _________________ 1987 2WD Wolfsburg Vanagon Weekender "Mango", two fully locked 80 Series LandCruisers. 2017 Subaru Outback boxer. 1990 Audi 90 Quattro 20V with rear locking differential, 1990 burgundy parts Vanagon. 1984 Porsche 944, 1993 Toyota LandCruiser, 2002 BMW 325iX, 1982 Toyota Sunrader |

Ha!
Doug...... I'm older...... I am here to tell you that without fail you will fill to over flowing whatever space you have available!
My garage is proof of this as I've added tools, tool boxes, storage, etc.... always thinking "Now I AM organized and will stay that way."
Ha ha ha ha ha.......... ain't gonna happen...... ever!
Now I'm looking at DOWNSIZING my available space! My tools! My babies! What will become of them???

15 years ago we moved from a small house where we had to be very careful of how much junk we owned to a much larger house with lots of extra storage. We are now bursting at the seams for want of space |

Same thing happened to me. Was in a house w no garage. 1100sqft. Moved to a 2100 sqft place where I laid claim to the three car garage. With the exception of some holiday ornament storage and a Murphy bed the space is still all mine. Do you think I have room to move around the westy when I'm pulling tires or performing a swap? Just barely.
I've moved in a desk and shelves for paperwork and parts and a compressor (gotta have it) and my stereo and a ton of albums and two work benches
Cars must have been smaller in 82 when the house was built. No way your getting three busses in here I barely got a bus, a Prius and a 67 bug in here last time I went on vaca.
Thinking about pouring a slab out back so I have some place to get work done. Ha ha ha No, for real. _________________ Support Small Business.

less than a year ago i finished a new garage... torn down a derelict 1953 single car garage and was landlocked so it is a bit smaller than i wanted but still 22'x36'. so i've got a great workspace for one vehicle with essentially a full, roomy shop complete with office desk, stainless table, 8' workbench, compressor/grinder/welder/press/parts washer and one wall of storage cabinets. 2 of my favorite features are the 16' floor drain down the middle (live in the winter wonderland and gets lots of ice on vehicles) and illumination with 40 T8 5000K 4' fluorescent tubes! space is filled but it is clean and organized so far!

Sears usually has the gearwrench on sale. I bought the set with standard and metric in it. The set goes up to 17MM on the large. The set includes 4 sets. One stubby and one large for standard. I think it was about $80 during some sale. _________________ www.vwnos.com [email protected]

Somewhere under the debris on that workbench are the following new items awaiting install:
- Porsche 944 left tie rod, fuel filter, and a headlamp wiring relay kit for the Koito H4's I installed.
- Vanagon front pads, caliper rebuild kit, and new wiper arms.
- Quattro CV boots and repack kit X 6 (already did one corner).
Hopefully getting this rolling tool chest will let me clean the tool bench down to bare wood again. Probably find that Bluetooth earpiece that went missing last year, too..
