AA Performance products has some nice looking Thing cooling shrouds for some Thing in need.... I have no connections with AA other than using their good priced pistons and jugs with happy success.

I believe this is the product they are selling.

They do look nice, although I never need a type IV cooler.

I only ran into the AA site with the shrouds today. The shroud you listed is a lower price. The type 4 addition is an old offroad trick for larger motors with higher compression. In the path of building high compression 1915 motors, I have built/modified a number of Thing shrouds to hold a type 4 cooler. It is cool to see a modification that was previously hand built from two shoruds now available without clean air holes. A used stock 73 shroud has been $250 for a long time now. So, a new one made to the same speces is a nice deal especially for an owner without fabrication skills. It is cool that you listed a lower priced source...

No coil mount nutserts.

As for the T4 oil cooler.. i had one on my 1904 and didn't notice any improvement. My current 2180 has a Type 1 oil cooler (Genuine 73 Type 181 shroud) and it runs as cool as stock.

I believe that the type IV cooler was due to the info in the Berg blue book.

If my memory serves me right Jake Raby did a test back in the day and indicated that it did not help since no more air is being diverted over the larger cooler when compared to a type 1 cooler.

The point of my original post was to let folks who had not seen it aware that there are some rare shrouds in ALL styles at a reasonable price and nice looking quality. They have all flavors from straight stock to modified. It was not a pitch for the t 4 oil cooler conversion... I did not notice the missing coil nuts ~~good eye Glenn...

It would be interesting to see if this setup had any positive effects on cooling with no down side. I have bought a late model Bug fan shroud with the factory velocity ring and will install it the next time my engine is out. Might do the T-4 cooler swap as well as I have multiple T-4 coolers available.

Have also thought about building a bulge in the body (the back shelf area on a Thing) to give a larger crossectional area for air flow in front of the fan inlet. The inlet area has just always seemed restrictive to me. Others thoughts on doing this?

Never saw a benefit from this... Back to back the oil temps ran the same, or hotter, and the CHTs suffered on cylinder #1.
