I have what appear to be stock rims on my 68 Beetle. What I would like to know is how do I tell if the rims are 4.5" or 5.5" since they already have tires on them?

Is there a marking that I could look for??

Thanks

Take some good pictures of them so we can see them. Are your rear wheels deeper than your front wheels or just bigger tires?

Factory wheels had the size stamped on the ribbing under the hub cap. Factory wheels on a 1968 beetle would be stamped 4J X 15 which is 4" wide. 4.5J would be a 4.5" wheel, etc.

Not all aftermarket wheels were stamped with the size.

Also, rims are measured to where the tire bead mounts, so if you can manage to measure to the outside lip of the rim, that measurement is usually 1" wider than the rim size.

All rims are the same size. The rear tires are bigger than the front. I will get some pics today. That pic is where the car was sitting when I purchased it.

Take your car to a local tire shop. They should have a caliper that can easily measure your wheel width
