email saying i have a new private message

so i just got an email saying i have a new private message, i am signed up to get emails notifying me of that but when i check my private messages, the last one i got is from 2016... email seems legit:

"Hello kai.scott98,

You have received a new private message to your account on "TheSamba.com" and you have requested that you be notified on this event. You can view your new message by clicking on the following link:
(link to private messages)
Remember that you can always choose not to be notified of new messages by changing the appropriate setting in your control panel.

If there is nothing there this usually means the sender canceled it.
This can be confusing.
