When you say .05mm difference, do you mean one side is .05mm greater than the other side? It's not uncommon if the case has been line bored as all the bores will be off the same. The machinist will sometimes move the centerline towards the side worn the most so it will clean up at the next over size. If the 1300 case was drilled and tapped to adapt it, that is good but if its just the oil pump plate, those are pretty weak, as those little studs are taking a lot of torque. |
The area supposed to be round is .05 to big on both sides. Sorry for poor language!? Both bearings halves reveals cobber as well.
I’m going to see the 1300 engine tomorrow. Let’s say, that an adapter plate has been used. Is it a DIY job to tap and die it instead? _________________ Jakob |

I believe that has been debunked. Those adapters don't only bolt onto the oil pump plate, but also fold under the engine and are attached there as well. Correct me if I am wrong. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Yes. I am searching for the thread that I saw regarding its strength. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

The original ones (back in the 60s) just bolted to the pump so I guess the improved them after the failures. |

But is it possible to DIY tap and die this instead on a type 1 case? Seems like a better solution if possible. _________________ Jakob |

That can only be done on a universal case that has the bosses cast into it. _________________ If you haven't bled on them, you haven't worked on them.

Ok, makes sense.
I read somewhere here http://www.vw-resource.com/
That some people just modified the bar underneath letting the engine rest upon it. I’ll go with the adapter plate if nessesary _________________ Jakob |

If you are measuring from the centerline to the bottom of the bore that is not a valid measurement when comparing case halves. As you know, camshafts have different numbers specifically to correct for that difference. The only valid bearing measurement with the straight edge is across a similar spot on the 2, 3 and 4 bearing saddles to see if any are lower than the others. Likewise across the entire case half to see if it is warped. To measure the bearing bore you need to bolt the case halves together, torque the 6 bolts and small bearing, then measure the bores on each with a bore gauge.
