So i purchased my very first bus after owning a couple bugs and boy are they way more work. I am having problems with power staying on after the key is taken out of the ignition. I then went and unplugged the ignition to check it and power is still staying on.
I would love to know if someone could help me out.
Bus is a 78 riviera with the 2.0L in it.
Thanks! |

What do you mean by “power is staying on?”
Is the bus still running after you turn the key off and remove it?
Or, is the power to the accessories (ie, radio, interior lights) staying on?
If it’s the accessories maybe you have a second fuse panel that runs directly off the battery or a second battery if your bus has one. I am planning this on my next bus. _________________ __________

So you recently purchased the bus and it's always had this problem since you bought it?
When you say power stays on with the key removed... does that mean things like your dash lights and stereo remain powered or the engine will not shut down?
Best to be careful. I understand that an alternator can be damaged if you remove the battery cable with the engine running. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

So it has been having this problem since bought it. Power to the dash lights and and and all accessories are staying on after the key is out. |

No second battery or fuse panels. I have to put a fuse from the power cord to the fuse box to get all accessories to power off. |

I'd start by getting a wiring diagram and looking at where the big power feed wire from the back on the bus is hooked up to. I think it's solid red. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

I would guess that a PO plugged some of the wires into the wrong spots on the fuse box. |
