Hey guys. Bought a set of NOS, stock height spindles rethinking my frontend rebuild. To my surprise, it looks as though these spindles missed a process in the manufacturing. Should the axle shaft of the spindle be honed? These are bare cast. Will they even work??
Thanks!

How do you know they are NOS? To me they appear to be used spindles that were media blasted. |

No ware/tear or signs of being installed. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hello <insert Ghia name here>! |

Looking at other NOS spindles in the classifieds, looks to be ok. The red-ish color is the anti-corrosive added by the manufacturer, not rust. I will have them blasted and powder coated... but will make sure the rotor fits of course. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Yes, the typical ones... including the Audi logo. Could have used the original ones I took off, but were the earlier (smaller inner bearing) style. When I installed the drop spindles, I had to go with the 68-74 bearings. Figured I could buy these and forgo the trouble of removing/purchasing/installing bearings. These, in theory, should bolt on no problem... At least that is what I am after. _________________ My 70 beetle was totaled Now to build the Ghia I always wanted. Rest in peace Ruby, I will miss you. Hopefully, (fingers crossed) with the stock spindles and sway bar, it will allow turning the 17X7 rims. Drop spindles... not so much.

You've seen them around...
Prior to the narrowed beam conversion...

They fit. Powder coated and installed... Much better clearance now. Here are before (drop spindles) and after shots.
