What modifications need to be done if I want to use some ML 430 wheels on 81 vanagon? Center bore? Stud holes? Spacets? Been reading through the wheel threads did not see this setup. Any pictures of these on a a vanagon?
Thanks! _________________ 1981 Vanagon Westfalia

You need to find out all the required dimensions from the wheel in question :
width , ET offset and some MBs are using 12mm bolts (needs to enlarged to 14mm) and some 14mm (straight fit), center bore is the correct size... |

Most (if not all) MLs have very high et (offset). So you will most likely need a pretty thick spacer.
All MLs have 14mm bolts and 66,6mm center bore, so nothing need to be done there. _________________ 1991 VW Multivan syncro 1,9 TD |

Thanks OddN.
Thinking about trying them, may try 15 mm spacers.
Anyone else try this? _________________ 1981 Vanagon Westfalia

ET should be cast into the inside of the wheel. Check it & report back...

In addition to the offset, we gotta know the size (diameter and width) to be able to know if they will fit well and if so, what it would take to make that happen. Some of the ML wheels have spokes that stick out past the lip of the wheel that can interfere with the sliding door. Some ML wheels have designs that prevent the Mercedes center caps from fitting. Having a photo and/or part number is super helpful. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Those are S-CLass (S420, S430) wheels, not ML. You would need spacers front and rear, longer rear studs, large ball seat lug bolts for the front and large ball seat lug nuts for the rear. You do not need to drill the lug holes. The center caps will fit on the front, but you may need to modify the front grease caps slightly to get the Mercedes center caps to fit. There are aluminum center caps on the market that fit without any mods to the grease caps. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)
