I see that the complete tie rod assembly on the passenger side is listed as a 181 part. The tie rod ends are type 1 parts. Is there anything special between the Thing tie rod and a Type 1 tie rod tube on the passenger side?

Thanks

Thicker wall tubing? Many things were similar to Type I, but beefier to handle off road driving or extra weight of the Thing.

Or just more money...

I bent my tie rod off-roading, and yes the typ 181 tie rod is stronger. I put a sleeve around my bug tie rod, The long one will buckle if you hit a rock with the wheels turned.

You can slide a piece of pipe over the 181 tie rod to strengthen it. Sorry not sure the size I used, maybe 1" Sch 40, NPT???
