Have a transmission from either a split window bus or a beetle. There seems to be two sets of numbers. One set on the trans near the differential and another set of numbers on the collar where the drive axle fits. This is a swing axle. # 113-301-103 and 113-301-1840. I also would like the r&p and 4th gear ratios. Thanks, George

I think those are casting numbers, look for stamped in numbers.

Those numbers are actually the part numbers for that specific section of housing/casing. So, it's a swing axle without axles? If so, you could pull out the differential side gears, and possibly look/feel through the opening in the diff to see what side the ring gear is on. Beetle on the left/drivers side, Bus on the right/passenger side. Or, simply shift it through the gears while turning the input shaft clockwise if looking from the rear. A Beetle trans would have 4 forward/1 reverse, the Bus 4 reverse/1 forward. As for the ring & pinion, shift the trans into 2nd gear, and count how many input shaft revolutions to turn the differential once. 9 times would be a 4.37, and 8.5 would be a 4.12. A Bus trans would have an .82 4th, while a Beetle would have an .89.
