Completed door panel install over the weekend. Everything was going good until I popped the clips in the drivers side panel and realized that the window crank pin is sticking so far out that when I go to screw the handle back on there is an inch gap. Any idea how I can fix this? Or why would it happen? The panel wasn't warped and the other side is fine with everything being flush up against it.

You're missing a conical spring that fits over the winder spindle. This spring pushes the panel out.

Stock window with a vent wing? Or is it a one piece with the 65 dual post regulator. That older regulator has a longer window crank shaft.

Do you know where I can purchase the spring?

It's just the stock job. Is it possible mine is a frankenstein and someone put the longer window crank shaft on it?

Go to the home page, and under classifieds on the left side, type in door spring.
There's a ton of em for sale.

Before you buy a new one- look down in side your door. I can't count how many I've found laying down in the bottom trough.

I'm curious as to how the other side door panel seems flush, without the need for the spring. Got any pictures you can show?

Also, do you have the black plastic collars/ spacers/ whatever that fill up the space between the door panel and the spindle end of the crank handle?

Steve, for some reason, when I installed my new TMI door panels, the window-winder spring was not needed.

And Steve makes a good point: there are two round plastic spacers that go between the door panels and the back of the winder. If these are missing, that may be the cause of the problem.

Ivy - does the door panel "dish in" towards the door as it is now? Can you post good photos? On both sides of the VW as well?

Yes, there is a little conical spring that goes there, under the panel. Sometimes that's a little tricky to get that to stay in place when you reinstall the panel. The little plastic "buffer" that fits just under the winder handle is pretty thin, won't fill a 1-inch gap.
