Yep expensive after market non fitting components. We all have been there.
Your build looks nice and hope it runs as nice as it looks. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

What a beautiful job you've done on your engine. I remember rebuilding my engine in the same way (splitting the block) and that wonderful feeling of having a nice clean and properly running engine. I did it back in 1977 and I was 26 at the time...I loved every minute of it and now I have a '67 in beautiful shape....and I will rebuild that engine as well. Doesn't it feel great when you see the fruits of your labor? This was so nice to see and brought back wonderful memories.

Get a stock pulley sooner than later. Having the lower pulley so far forward can result in the belt running at an angle. This angle can result in the fan belt twisting over, and even coming off.
Also might want to inquire with the folks here before modifying parts willy nilly, when you might really need to take a different approach to the fix. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Well the images you are recently posting show a cheap China made crankshaft pulley, made of aluminum and has round holes thru it.
Here is a stock pulley made of steel:
VW made at least three sizes of crank pulleys from 1960 on for the 40 HP thru 1600 engines. The biggest one is best for more cooling fan RPM and thusly a cooler running longer lasting engine.
Note the VW symbol stamped into the rear face near the top. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

No problem.
The metal fuel line needs to have a stock rubber grommet in the front firewall tin that the line passes thru. Without that grommet the metal line will much sooner than later get cut thru on the edge of the tin. Hardware store grommet will most likely not last much more than a few weeks. Stock grommet is much thicker and harder rubber.
Should also be a bracket on the right hand side of the shroud to hold up the metal line and keep down on vibration. Inside of the bracket is lined with a short section of flex fuel line.
Also need spark plug cable clips that snap into those three holes (about 13mm diameter) on the rear face of the fan shroud. Clips not only hold the cables from rubbing on metal or getting burnt thru the insulation on the hot heat riser of the intake, but close off the holes in the shroud to keep that much more cooling air pumped over the engine.
Here is an image of engine in a documented original 22 miles VW 1964 Beetle. Early 1960s VW used blue spark plug cables and white plastic clips. The cable color shows up in the wiring diagrams of the time. Later both clips and cables were black from the factory. Real easy to pick out these parts in the images due to this:
All the metal lines that VW used are copper plated steel lines. Do not use solid copper lines, they do not last like the steel plated ones.
You can read thru the rest of the thread on this VW if you feel the need here:
