I'm 6'4", IDK how anyone my height can fit into a Ghia without relocating the seats, I couldn't even get in & out without being a contortionist in the car's original configuration.

Yeah, umm, you don't have time to look at those when reacting to the obstacles much less trying to record them. Laughing In the first straight you can hear me shifting into third, I'm probably doing 40ish, the rest of the time I was in second & doing 25-30 which is still a decent pace given the terrain & not wanting to destroy the car.

How can a thread with the word Ghiapet in the title not be entertaining.
I read somewhere that (I believe it was) Boeing did aerodynamics experiments using feathers on a test fuselage to reduce drag. Perhaps a thin layer of Ghia seeds and light rain storm nay help the Ghiapet slip effortlessly through the trails. Very Happy

Here are a few article to prove I am not "on the pipe."
Fake feathers could take the drag out of flights

Believe it or not, I've actually contemplated a Chia seed mat for a Mohawk for the Ghiapet Laughing (Now who's "on the pipe")

In my quest to make an improvement on the beast daily, I decided to decrease the Ghiapet's threat of spontaneous combustion.

Today's project consisted of trying to remedy the neat creeping, weeping fuel wall fountain on the passenger side kick panel that's instigated by spirited left hand turns. After a little investigation, I determined that the hose on the filler neck had a few cracks in it (at least I was hoping that's all it was).

So I removed the old one..

Sourced a replacement & cut it to length

Then I slathered some Ospho into the filler neck to slow the progression of rust.

And then wrassled the hose into place.

This concludes today's what not to do to your classic car, and as Smokey Bear says, "Only you can prevent forest fires".

I'd donate a dollar to see that Cool You'll need to hang a giant gold hoop earring from the driver side door handle to complete the look.
Who's with me?

Mmm, patience Darrel-san. For, like the Great Wall of China, the Ghiapet was not built in a day. Laughing

If you only knew the hell I went through to find a 9” section of 2” fuel filler hose. One numbnut at one of the four FLAPS (and I’m definitely substituting the four letter F word here) that I had to go to, suggested that I use a radiator hose. Evil or Very Mad

You were just lucky you dont have the 1/2 year only 68 tank with oval shaped tank and fill ends! You would have to visit all the F@*#ing FLAPS in the state.

Over the last day or so, in my "must improve upon the project every day" method, I addressed some of the surface rust by first attacking it with a stiff wire brush, then blowing off the dust & then slathering it down with some Ospho. Nothing exciting.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I made sure to work lots of Ospho into the joints & seams.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then I did the same to the seam in the driver side door after clearing out the drains.

After letting it dry/cure, I cleaned it with acetone & shot them with some primer.

I grabbed a can of paint from the hardware store that looked close in color (it was not) but I shot some cover coat over the primered rocker & inner door to slow the progression of rust. The new color is a bit brighter, which I don't mind, it looks like another layer of rattle can paint is in the future for the Ghiapet. Twisted Evil

Today I decided that I was just going to lower the car like everyone else.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

JUST KIDDING!

I've been fighting & trying to dial in the left rear corner a few times & ended up overshooting by 3/4" last time so I pulled it apart again so I could do that whole "two steps forward &two steps back" thing.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And finally got it level Dancing

(How many times & how hard do you have to let your car door hit the side of your old car before you decide that it's time to get rid of it?!?!)

While I had the wheel off, I found my occasional rubbing noise & carefully pounded the fender into submission.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

And just because I was on a roll, I jacked up the front end to address the fact that the suspension limiters were a bit too close & making contact a bit too early...

So I raised the front end about an inch & a half.

That concludes today's "how to fu*% up a classic car"

Sorry, I couldn't help myself, I had to have some fun after having to do the same thing 4 times to get it right Evil or Very Mad Good news is that I've got the process down to about 20 minute per side. Laughing

The other side makes a bit of contact also, but not as much since my fat ass isn't over there & I didn't have the wheel off already. Rolling Eyes I'll allow the front to make contact but in this case the fender lip was effectively a knife edge just waiting for the opportunity to filet the sidewall of the tires.

FWIW, here’s a vid of the hook & rod suspension limiters in action.

Link

These should be installed in every extremely lowered car to avoid balljoint failure.

Well, I done painted myself into a corner now. Rolling Eyes I checked the events listing of Tarheel Sports Car Club, the local SCCA charter & registered the Ghiapet for a nearby event on August 19th. So that gives me two weekends to get the beast tech spec ready. Realistically, since i’ve been through all of the mechanicals, I only have to get the seats mounted properly & get seat belts in it.

So today I started fabbing up the passenger seat mount, this one is different from the driver side due to the realization that the seat bottom needs more angle. The driver side currently is a bit too flat causing me to sit only on my tail bone & being a bit uncomfortable on my 1/2 hour drive home.

While trying to decide the best height & angle, the loud creak brought to my attention “ Hey dumbass, you haven’t bolted that pan to the heater channel yet” Embarassed

So, like the other side, I simply used the original hole...

To drill through the new layer to find the threaded hole in the channel.

After securing three or four of them, I decided to take a break, get out of the sun & rekey a door handle, toss it on & drive the beast home.
