I haven't seen a single stars-and-bars flag in the background of any of these photos that are supposedly taken in the wilds of North Carolina.

I'm beginning to wonder if any part of your fabulous story is really true. Confused

Honestly, I can't say that I've ever seen a "Stars & bars" flag flying.

The Confederate flag on the other hand... I know of at least a dozen, but who wants to see the Ghiapet in front of a run down trailer?

Confederate flag? Which one?

The Second Confederate Navy Jack or the Battle Flag of the Army of Northern Virginia?

With almost two years into driving this beast, I seemed to have worn some heel prints into the bedliner coating the pans.

So I cleaned it off with some acetone & glopped some more on..

And dabbed it with the same rag that i cleaned it with until I got a satisfactory result.

Over the last 2,000-3,000 miles (month or so), I've had an odd misfire or random complete shut off at idle & thought maaayyybe I should, or at the very least, inspect the points. I removed the distributor cap & I quickly determined what a possible cause was...

This failing ignition rotor.

So I ordered new ones & thought "Ehh, what the hell, I'll just leave it until it totally shits out". Then I thought better of it & replaced it anyway.

If you still feel as though you haven't gotten your money's worth out of the old rotor, you could always toss it in the glove box as an emergency spare.

Today I pumped another tube of grease into the front beam.

Firstly, I cleaned off the Zerks fittings...

Then attached the grease gun & gave my forearms a workout.

And pumped the new in until I displaced the old.

Then finally, I cleaned off the beam.

Well...
Today was two years since I got the beast street legal & I have managed to coax just under 43,000 registered miles on it in that time. If you add the roughly 1,000 miles lost when the speedometer broke & the 15%-20% correction for the larger tire size, it’s probably closer to 50,000.

Here’s the last odometer reading that I posted in late December...

I gave the beast a fresh oil change yesterday just to keep it going smoothly.

A philosophical conundrum hangs in the air, like the mystical musings of Caine on Kung Fu —
Can the Pet of today be the Pet of yesterday when one considers her oil can ancestry, Grasshopper?

But master, as the body changes & replenishes itself through the years, should we not learn to embrace those changes on the Pet as a natural progression of it’s life & rejoice in it’s miraculous resurrection? For not all are destined to a life free of hardships, some must toil for their existence.

You have learned much during these seasons of trial and tribulation grasshopper— stay the course and you will one morning awake to find that you have attained the bliss of full Ghia Nirvana.

I miss my Ghia Pet fix, what are you doing now? I have a 70 coupe that has been resting for about 15 years, with 139000 miles and am now finishing the rehab as I an newly retired. I am the second owner, bought it from a little old lady in 1982, a customer at my dad's service station. You remember those, we pumped the gas, washed the windows, and checked the oil!

A few years ago, my younger guy who was about 8 or so got into my Jeep that I just just bought and after a few minutes started looking around in the car and I mean really looking. I asked what was going on and he said he wanted to open the window. He was looking for the button. I told him to roll down the window and you should have seen this struggle. It was like asking him to write with his non dominant hand. I can hardly wait to get my Ghia on the road and see how he does this time.

Well... I treated the beast to a new pair of sneakers.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I wanted to match the rears but after driving on the BFGs, I quickly realized that they were quite a bit slippier in the wet than the General Grabbers, not an ideal situation on the steering end. This decision proved fortuitous not even eight hours later when someone pulled out in front of me while driving at speed down a four lane divided road.

I was in the left lane when they pulled out to turn across traffic, I was suddenly looking at the look of horror on their face as I threw the anchor out trying not to T-bone them at 50mph. Knowing that they were trying for the center lane, I dove for the right lane while threshold braking hoping that they would go for the center lane & I could just dive behind them but this idiot panicked & stopped dead in the middle of the road blocking both lanes. Well, fortunately, the rear of the Ghiapet starts to rotate past me which points the front just past the rear of their car & allowing me to miss them by less the two feet, pretty close given that the Pet was still sideways at 40mph. This gave me the perfect out so I let of the brake & countersteered the front just behind them, driving the passenger side of the pet up the sidewalk & gave the wheel a quick twitch to the left to snap the ass to the right & did a glorious sideways drift with the front end on the asphalt & the rear on the sidewalk & accelerated back onto the road leaving them there to obstruct the rest of the traffic that was behind me. Ya gotta love having plenty of sideways seat time to know how the car is gonna react. Too bad I didn’t have the GoPro rolling.

Anyway, I’m still living vicariously by putting the Ghiapet where it doesn’t belong since putting other thing where they don’t belong would be frowned upon by the better half. Twisted Evil

Here’s some new Ghiapet porn.
