I´m planning to get this VW gear puller of off Ebay but am not sure if it´ll fit an A and B 356 crank as the seller states it´ll only fit VW T1 crank, not i.e. VW T3 and as I´ve no clue whether a VW T1 crank might in this respect be compatible to an A or B 356 crank, I´m in doubt. Seller didn´t know either.
I´m neither certain on whether it is so wise using standard two or three leg pullers without danger for cracking or otherwise damaging the inner gear, never done that before.
Can anyone confirm?

I believe that will work fine, but you can verify when you get it. 356 gears are the same as 36hp VW. You need a puller that will support the gear around most of it's circumference, so do NOT use a 2 or 3 leg type jaw puller. I have also used an adjustable bearing puller with a shop press. |

Hi Alan,
Thanks for the input but as I´m based in Europe and with the expensive transatlantic shipping fees, plus as expensive local duties, it´ll be too late to verify the puller doesn´t fit, that´s why I´m trying to find out before placing the order.

Measure the OD of your gear and have the seller measure the area that needs to fit over the gear, if they are real close then it will work. |

If you buy it, have the seller use a "flat rate" box from USPS as its the cheapest way to ship international because the weight doesn't matter (up to the limit of each size box) around $30.00 with insurance and tracking. |

One more thing, why do you need a puller, just remove the lock ring before each gear and they should just tap off with a brass drift and small ball peen hammer. They might need a little heat from a propane torch but it's the woodruff key and lock ring that hold them in. |

Well, its my first job doing this and without knowing how things sit and work, I thought the best is doing it by the book, not messing things up. I guess i´ll have more use for that puller as I´ve two more motors/cranks to do. |

Guys,
I now received the VW gear puller in the pic above and for those who might be in doubt, it fits like a glove on the 356 crancshafts.
