I just picked up a 64 sunroof beetle. The wiring is a mess and ran underneath the floor. Does anyone know the correct location of how it should be run? I am going to buy a new harness. From what I can see, should it go overhead? Second question, the 1200 motor is bad and I would like to replace it with a stock 1600. The car has been converted to 12 volt. I am near Knoxville, TN. Anyone got a 1600 for sale? Rebuidable is ok. Thanks

1964 was the last model year that the main wiring harness for the back of the car was run up along the roof, on the left side of the car. (well if there is a solid roof in question, convertibles were, by nature, different)

Since when was a 1600 "stock" in 1964? Twisted Evil

(as someone who has driven a third of a million miles on admittedly beefed up (1385cc) D-series 1200 engines, I have to say, while these engine are still rooted in their econo-box heritage, they still push the car along in a decent manner. But not a manner that Ye Average Joe Who Normally Drives A Corvette might come to grips with.. Me, I learned to be a defensive econo-bubble driver a very long time ago. And even though my main modes of transport are a 1.8 CIS-E (1985 Golf) and what amounts to to a Digifant 2.0 (1983 Toyota Camry) I still drive them in the gutless-mild-mannered manner that my Beetles taught me.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox.
