Have 1969 convertible and want to repaint the wheels. Looks like my wheels are original paint and they are silver grey. Is that correct or did all 69's have black centers and white outer rims? [/i]

That's my car on the left. Yukon yellow. Didn't the convertibles also come with chrome rings outside the hubcap?

1968 and 1969 Beetle convertibles in the US would have solid black wheels and with the aluminum trim rings and hubcaps installed just the lip of the wheel shows.
Here is a 1968:

The entire wheel inside and outside was black? Did some come with the black white combo?

If the car has trim rings it should have solid black wheels.

Unfortunately the brochure isn't accurate. They used the same photo in the 1970 brochure, but airbrushed in the 1970 only tailights and reflectors. By 1970 all beetles had silver wheels, but they didn't change them in the brochure.

So, when did VW start with the silver wheels?

Thanks for the info. My Vert is Yukon yellow. Like the color but might change it when I do the full resto. Did the convertibles come in all the '69 colors?

Yellow anything is relatively rare from VW in the 60s. You couldn't pay me enough to change a Yukon yellow vert to anything else. IF it were a 70s yellow- no problem.

Thanks for the chart. I'm kinda leaning toward keeping the original color. Was thinking of a color change cause I already have a yellow 74 bug. I do like the Yukon yellow and black combo better than the red/ black.

Are the black convertible rims gloss or satin black?

Not sure if the gloss was the same as it was on the 69 sedan but perhaps/probably? I wanted to be as accurate as possible but had trouble finding reference material. After a good amount of research I settled on an 80% gloss black powder coat.
