First of all, welcome to the Samba.
We all know what "dodgy" means, but you'll need to provide more details about the problem before anyone can help. _________________ '65 Sunroof Bug |

Thank you, seems like a great website.
Yeah well the button is very very very temperamental. You have to press it in a certain place and even then it only works like 10% of the time. Correct me if I'm being stupid but I'm not sure how to describe it anymore than that. |

That button is just a tiny intermittent switch. It's supposed to be closed when pressed and open when released. The signal actuates a main relay that switches the headlights between high-beam and low-beam.
When that tiny switch gets old it no longer closes cleanly or consistantly
I have no idea where one would find a replacement for that tiny switch.

I guess I would start by giving all the wires and electrical contacts a good cleaning. _________________ '65 Sunroof Bug |

It's fiddly, clean it all and bend the long contact it loses its flex. its needs some spring to ensure the contact is good. If it still doesn't work start check the relay mentioned. |
