My type 1 motor starts right off when cold. After driving a bit and getting the engine up to freeway temperatures I'll turn the motor off. When trying to restart there is nothing. No click from starter, nothing. The accessory lights are on. Letting motor cool for an hour seems to work also push starting works. Is this a solenoid issue at starter. Help? |

It probably will be fixed by a starter, but you should evaluate condition of
Ignition switch
wiring
starter
and bring all three components to near new condition for a trouble free starting experience. _________________ .ssS! |

I know it’s been mentioned before. We need a sticky for this type of situation. _________________ Keep on Busin'

When hot and not starting remove solenoid wire (red 12? gauge 1/4" spade push on) and measure the voltage when in the "crank" position. It has to be 11V or higher to get the solenoid to pull in. If you have 11 or more volts on the solenoid wire then you need a starter or the bushing in the bell housing. Ideally you would have close to battery voltage at the solenoid wire.
If you do not have 11 or more volts (you should have close to what the battery voltage is) then check the wire back to the ignition switch.
Also check resistance from engine block/case to negative battery post. Should be zero ohms or very close to it. _________________ Al
