anyone know where the red with white tracer wire for the power steering pressure switch is attached in the wiring harness? bently on page 97.206 shows it welded at the G1 and then goes to fuel injector, oxy, full pump relay, i am not getting the 12 volts at ps switch red/wh wire. any help is appreciated

In your year harness the PS switch wire only has power when the fuel pump relay is turned on. The ECU controls the FP relay and only turns it on when it thinks the engine is turning. Of course it also turns it on for a second or two when the key is first turned on.

i am using a multimeter so it shouldnt be a problem ( has a very high input impedance) . but i forgot about the key on and fuel pmp on for a few seconds before engine runs. will have to test for that and while engine is running. any idea where they tied the r/w wire into the harness? i am trying to get my idle controller stabilizer to work the icv seems to work but i want to make sure the inputs to idle control stabilizer are ok.

The PS switch power is battery voltage, from the fuel pump relay, gets same power at same time as fuel pump does. When engine is running it gets alternator voltage. This is true for everything tied to G1

The G1 switched power junction is inside the Digifant wiring harness sheath, just as it says on page 97.203

The above is for a 90 harness. Other years can vary in these details.

Do yourelf a favor and put a fuse on it. Evidence that it causes fuel pump relay wires to burn.
Search the threads on it.

thanks this is what i was planning to do besides fixing the idle stabilizer . i found some threads on what others have done on how to fuse this circuit.

Keep in mind that it fuses the fuel pump and fuel injection.

Items previously unfused. IF you experience a no running condition........ remember that fuse!!!

i found this pic of the wire (from fuel pump relay)is this the wire that should be fused on a 2.1 digifant?

That is the constant battery voltage power supply wire for the entire fuel injection system.
Yes, that is the wire people commonly put a fuse in.
I use 7.5 amp, fine so far.

- nice heat shrink on connectors...
- clear fuse holder (assume for "glows-when-it-blows" type fuse)...
- nothing more or less than needed...

Git 'r done! Cool

I made a note to myself to “fuse and insulate the power steering” when I got to our van after seeing a picture of a uninsulated melted power steering wire posted on some thread a few months back. I failed to note the thread... d'oh!

Anyone have links? Pictures?

Edit; I see the fuse pictured above, so that part I can do. Just not sure the bare spade connection (..if it was that)

Edit #2; Is this it? (Photo curtesy borninabus)

that is the wire that caused my FI harness meltdown.
it was not a factory terminal.
better believe that my "new" harness has insulated terminals on the the PS switch and is fused inside the black box Laughing

Alaskaberrys, here is a good picture of the wire to fuse connected to the standoff in the box.

Here also is the thread on the wiring:

hi Mark,

"uninsulated melted power steering wire"

that's a bad design... the wires at the PS switch are very close to intake manifold... vibrations etc.. and the wires will touch the manifold... well... harness melt down or even fire in the engine... fuse it and insulated is a good idea... they sell L shape spade connector with plastic cover...
