Hey there Sambians...
In May my family will be traveling to southern Germany, and I am taking a 3 day excursion to the north to visit a friend in Hamburg.
I am wondering, is there is any collected information in VW/Kombi/Bulli museum and factory tours yet in the forums? While I have been to the Wolfsburg museum once before 20ish years ago or so, the only online presence of a Bus/Kombi museum around Hannover I see is a Bulli museum in Oldendorf.
Is that Bulli museum in Oldendorf the main Bus museum there? I also am VERY tempted to visit the volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge in Hannover too.
Thanks! _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

They apparently have an oldtimer museum/tour at the Hannover factory, but I don't have any experience -- either they didn't have it in 2013 when I was there or I just didn't know about it. I did cruise by the factory and take a couple of pictures.
https://www.volkswagen-nutzfahrzeuge.de/de/oldtimer.html
They did have some interesting stuff at the Wolfsburg museum, but it's a bit of a drive from Hannover and in the opposite direction from Oldendorf. No idea on the Bulli museum either.
Please keep us posted on what you find. I'm hoping to make a trip in September for a couple of weeks but nothing's decided yet... |

Hey Tom,
so, there seems to be a new bus museum or exhibition at Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge in Hannover. Apparently, it opened in September, here's a news article with a few pictures (all in German, sorry): http://www.haz.de/Hannover/Fotostrecken-Hannover/D...-Limmer#p1
The VW Website says you can book tickets online here, they're like 11 Euros: http://www.eventim.de/tickets.html?affiliate=GMD&a...anguage=en
If you haven't been to Wolfsburg in 20 years it might well be worth going back. Volkswagen has built the "Autostadt", a huge event center/exhibition area/park/whatever else with a bunch of really cool things to do and stuff to see. I don't think they have a dedicated bus museum, but the place itself is pretty cool. Here's a link: https://www.autostadt.de/explore-the-autostadt
And then there's the Bullimuseum. I've never been there, but people say good things about it. Their website says they're closed until May, so you'd have to see if they're open when you'll be there.
That's all I could find for now, let me know if you need any specific info on anything. I currently live in Braunschweig, which is a 30-minute drive from Wolfsburg. I'd love to show you around when you're here, but I fear I'll already be back in the States by then, since I plan to travel back in April.

not Type 2 directly related, but a lot of vintage VW and Porsche stuff. You won´t be disappointed. _________________

So in 3 days I fly out to Bavaria, and then on the 25th, take a train up to my friend in Hamburg.
I'll rent a car and hope to hit the Hanover Museum/Nutzfahrzuge, and the Bulli Museum as well.
If there is time I'd also like to see the new Wolfsburg set up, though I will see. With all there is to do not at the AutoStadt, I think that would be a whole day's experience!
I'll document what I can of the trip and locations I go to, Perhaps there can be a Sticky made about Bus/Bay related tourist spots to hit up world wide. _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

Wow, well. the dates for the Hannover tour are very limited, and the one date while I would be there isn't available (grrrrr)... By the photos in the gallery of it, it seems it might be small group only?
Shoots down that one... _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

I have seen the cars from the Bulli Museum when they were on display at the PS Speicher museum last year. Looks like it is pretty close to Hannover

Thats a pretty red/white T6 California!
It looks like I will work out the Bulli Museum, and probably Wolfsburg. I'll budget a rental car for those days.
Anyone know if there's a rental car company in Hamburg that rents out older VW's? HA! Just kidding. Boy that would be nice though!
OK Tcash, What model of California are ya looking for? T4, 5, 6? I'll keep an eye out. Perhaps they'll have one sitting pretty in a building and I can snap all kinds of naughty California photos to keep you up late one night...

The link in tritessa's post offers rentals. I believe it's the same museum you're trying to visit. _________________ ~Kevin

I think they only open to the public when they have special events. Judging from their website, they're not a "real" museum, more a group of enthusiasts. They don't seem to have the financial and time resources to operate the museum on normal hours.
Still, call them up and see, maybe there's an event when you're there!
I'm not in Germany for May and June, but have fun around my home area. I'd love some cool pictures if you happen to come across anything worthy of being photographed

Thank you Sven, I will do my best!
Years and years ago I went to the VW Museum in Wolfsburg, I think sometimes around 2004 or so, we might go there again as I remember it was pretty cool back then.
Do you have any other recommendation - not necessarily VW related - in that Wolfsburg/Hannover area they are worth visiting or staying? _________________ 1975 Westfalia in Brilliant Orange

I am heading to Wallsburg todayWith my friend, and hopefully have enough time to see enough of that with my friend, and hopefully have enough time to see enough of that. The bully museum is a little too far out-of-the-way for traffic in the region so I had to drop that too. Hopefully we can get some good photos maybe from a local who lives nearby perhaps.
TCash... got sone exterior shots of a thite T6 California. Hoping to find you another. Did you need photos of a specific part of it? _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.

So. Just got home, and unpacked all my VW goodies that I got, from stores, a VW Autohaus, the VW AutoStadt...
As you can see...
I got a few things. Not to much... About 15 brochures, cards, books, magazines, toys, the bag from the Zeit Haus in Autosdadt, the guest card from buying the access to it...
Oh and look! whats that hidden in there? Are those doubles of the Nutzfahrzeuge and possibly even California Brochures?
Yes Tcash, not only did I get photos of 2, if not 3 Californias (one of them in the Nutzfahrzeuge pavilion in the Autostadt), but a whole 27 page NFZ brochure and whopping 72 page California Brochure for you! Send me a PM on where to ship them to and you'll have them soon.
I'll post my report on the Autostadt in a couple days. I took a bunch of photos and panoramas of the area. Pretty area, but... _________________ Few will understand the passion and majesty, among the nuts and grease.
