Hello,

our buggy restauration is making it to the next level. It has now new pans and the engine is about to be installed.

This is our actual issue: When we bought it, it was coming with below seats on modified original mounts. We have re-welded them to reduce height, but I believe it is still too high.

What is best? Do we remove the stock mounts? What mounts, sliders do we use?
What seats do you have in your buggy?

Thank you for your feedback.

For my build I uses PRP full suspension seats (solid poly seats makes my body hurt) and eliminates the VW sliders and put them on low (profile) mount sliders....

https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speedway-Universal-Bucket-Seat-Slider-Tracks,7103.html

And I used these adapted because they fit my suspension seats...

https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Universal-Seat-Mount-Plates,7104.html

On your install I would use the low profile sliders (directly on floor) and an flat (sheet) steel adapter plate for connection seat to sliders...

This is how I did mine...

I used tracks and seats from 2003 Dodge Neon, awesome fit and comfort.

I can't complain, the easiest seats to remove at a wrecker. ..PT Cruiser seats, flat bottom mounting, some models have armrests built in and some have a passengers seat that folds into a drive-in eating table.

And to boot, these are true suspension seats, not foam on frame.

Note: headrest was removed

I'm using Fiero seats with studs welded to the Fiera tracks and bolted to the pans.

I really like them. I redid the covers last year and installed speakers in the headrest

I have the lowback poly seats in my Manx copy.

Years ago I used the seat tracks from a late 70's Corolla - I bolted the tracks directly to the mounts on the pan, so the seats themselves are only a inch or so above that. This was 20 years ago however, and there were a lot of 70's Corollas in the yards then.

I don't have any pics to show the seat height except for this one:

You definitely sit "in" the car with this seat height rather than "on" the car.

I'd recommend some universal mounts from Jegs or Summit.

What seats do you have in your buggy?

Thank you for your feedback.

I got a set of Chevy cavalier seats from the local junk yard for $20. Bolted straight to the floor.

I also used Chevy Cavalier seats. Narrow enough and plenty still around the wrecking yards.

The Fiero seat looks good in a buggy.

Question: Can you reach the seat back rake adjuster after they are mounted? An adjustable seat back would be nice.

Yes I can... sort of.

I had to cut down the handle a bit to get it to fit in the buggy. The original handle is molded to fit the hand. I had to shave a section off of the handle to make it fit flat against the side of the tub. But... yes, I can grab it and actually adjust the rake of the seat. It works quite well, actually.

With my Cavalier seats, i mounted them on opposite sides so the handles were in the middle.

That's because you are more intuitive than I Smile

I didn't want the handles in the center to keep the area clear and clean looking. I would ha e shaved the handles down either way so decided to just stick them tub-side.

I like fit of Mazda Miata seats.
I am entertaining having the headrests removed when reupholstered.

I have Austin Healey seats on there original tracks bolted to wood blocks and then to the pan with extra large washers. I've rebuilt them but they are over 50 years old and may be time for an upgrade

Are those orange cloth pieces for protection getting in and out? Haven’t seen that before.
