Finally got a chance to get back on this Kombi and get some more work done. Was able to get the cargo doors done, undercarriage almost finished and working on front lower nose section. Ran into a few set backs and would like some suggestions to get it done right the first time. Any help will definitely be appreciated.
My issue is with the lower front nose inner valance and the inner valance end pieces that weld the inner valance to the lower A post under first hinge. They stick out at the ends as seen in pics. Anyone else have issues and solutions to this. I was thinking of cutting lining it up correctly and re welding so it aligns and sits flush to weld but will wait in case i am missing something.
Thanks in advance for suggestions and constructive criticism, Peter
Ps. How do you like my lil buddy who slithered on to my driveway while i was welding and caught him getting closer out of the corner of my eye
He a dead, Cooper Head!!!!
How would you like this Copper Head showing up behind you while
your lying on the ground working

Statring to get engine parts ready for 1641 Dual Port rebuild. All tins blasted and powder coated. Also Porsche front disc brakes blasted, high heat Primered and disc brake ceramic high heat painted. Front beam removed and cleaned by my always willing to help Beautiful Daughter Amber. Porsche spindles and VW bus spindles sent to Nate at Wagonswest for welded 3" hybrid spindles,
4" beam and offset spring plates. Rebuilt 1967, 412 rancho tranny with short axles and rear porsche pattern disc brakes. Alex Magro in Tampa restored 16x6 & 16x7 detailed Fuchs. still lots to go but getting there little by little.

It looks like you knocked off the heavy stuff, in some pics...but I'm curious if you are treating any of the corrosion inside the panels before covering them with replacement metal. |

Hello Busstom, yes all of my replacement panels get painted on the inside before being welded back on. I usually try and cut out as much of the rust as possible, wire brush, then treat with metal ready, primer and paint here are some examples
Hope this helps |

Nice. I've been scouring many of these metal replacement threads in preparation to attempt some of these on my '64. My Bus is somewhat dry, but I know some of this stuff lurks beneath.
Thanks! |

Dang! I'm glad I live in the Midwest, where things don't kill me. Except a couple things that are rare, and winter, winter could kill you.
But no copper heads, scorpions, deadly spiders (we have 2 rare ones that could, but I've never actually seen them), nothing that really attacks people other than yellow jackets and mosquitos. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

Cats! they kill copperheads and other snakes while they are still little. Some dogs do too.
I live on 2 acres in the woods, i see dead snakes and disassembled scorpions all the time. One cat got bit in 20 years, he is fine. _________________ regards

I'm not a cat guy, but that information would change if I move to the southwest. _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

No worries, I have also learned much of what I know by going through threads and pictures here on the samba for metal replacement and general knowledge. I have several builds here on the samba you can go through as well. Good luck with your build, I am here for technical support if you need it. Peter |

Spike0180, I have a large wooded area with a creek behind my home and has a variety of animals in there. Deer on the regular, coyote, fox, raccoons, possums, beaver and so on. Snakes as well but this is as close as I have ever been to a copper head just outside my garage. King snakes, red rat snake, and garden snakes on the regular but the copper head really tripped me out.
Close enough to where my family and dogs always run around and I wasn't going to try and handle him and risk getting bit. Better safe than sorry. Now back to the bus topic |

Thanks for the detailed pics, awesome job. I see the white rustoleum is brush on, but what are you using for the gray primer? Did you say already and i missed it? |

Thanks for the comments Navydave. I use a High Heat Engine Paint Primer either VHT, or Duplicolor works well. Then I go over it with the rustoleum for a little added protection. Would be nice to spray epoxy coat in those areas as well if you could. Congrats on your 59 Bus as well. Looks like a good start, I will stay tuned for the progress on yours also. Let me know if there is any technical support I can help you with. Thanks again, Peter |
