It was way too hot to be painting but no adverse effects on the final product.
Still have bumper blades to shoot, not enough space in garage...
Super happy with paint color and quality.

My paint job progresses slowly, but progress is progress. My painter decided i needed more gun time, i needed another skill. I agreed I could really use the practice, im up for this. I'll be painting most of this project, which is cool for me, first full paint job. I did a 4 hour shift last night, Got some color on. 5 coats on everything, so plenty of paint, ill need it, I'll be color sanding for final finish. Got bumper blades done last week. Sunday was hot, about 100 again but got these parts done. Safaris, vent wings, front door window frames, bulkhead divider top, rear valence and decklid cover. L87 Pearl White.

^^ thanks for the encouragement GK!
Ive been shopping for rubber seals and found this handy kit from WCM, any reviews? Its in stock and on the way. Im sure ill need more pieces for pedal holes and a bunch of other misc. but this will give me most. Convenient, surprised they had a kit for just 67.

I dont know if the heat helps drying, it does make it harder to apply.
Its been 95-105 everyday so I havnt painted a thing in a week. Ive decided to just hold off a bit, not worth pushing paint in 100+. I have too much time and $$ invested to push paint in these temps. I have plenty of things to keep me busy.
I got a delivery from WestCoastMetric. Its a "full" kit for 67 DC

Im sure i will need several more pieces but this will give me a great start when assembly begins.
I visited my friendly local tire guy and he hooked me up with some new rubber. $605 out the door, mounted, balanced.

I used 6-32 flathead machine screws and nylocks for the hubcap clips. The screws/nuts were less $ than the rivet tool.

I'm attempting mine currently ( https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=9717069#9717069 )

And I'm a little unsure on how to fit the tray with the flanges of the wheel tub:

Did you cut a horizontal notch along the bottom of yours, or is that there once the remnants of the old tray are out? And are there as many spot welds along that edge as it seems? Shocked

How do I clear that flange?

Just found your thread. Nice write up on the metal work. Reminds me of Metwiz. Always love following the metal work process. Impressed with the struggle to get the gas tank area sanded. Agree that area and gates really stink. Alot of work to get looking nice.

Your DC is going to look really good.

@Mr. MargaretScratcher, I think 67 is a one year part, I may be confusing this because i bought a diff tray (for bus) and it did not fit, needed the truck part. here is what mine looks like. Not sure if this helps.

This paint job has been frustrating...the waiting, the not knowing if painting or not and more waiting. Im sure everyone has been thru the same type frustrations. As i painted my small parts the other day I had a moment of clarity, an epiphany of sorts. Im just going to do this myself. If I wait, its because I decided to wait. Its a great idea til i remembered i only had a couple old detail guns and Harbor Freight $12.99 HPLV ive been using for primer. I cant paint a bus with a $12.99 HF special! I walked thru HF eyeballing their more expensive $200 paint guns, I researched on Amazon from $30-$500 reading reviews and such. I wasnt any closer to knowing what i needed. Next i visited my original painter friend who was helping me out, I told Albert about my epiphany, he laughed and went deep into the tool shed, came out with a dirty old MAC SG1300 HVLP and gifted it to me. I told another one of my painter friends, Butch and he did the same, but this time it was a new Dewalt gun. Two visits and two guns. I would know nothing about bodywork, sanding, primers, paints nothing w/o these two guys, they didnt hesitate, they just handed me their stuff to have and to use. People in the car community are often wonderful and generous. I will paint this DC, i will make mistakes, probably a lot of them, then I will fix them. When im done, I can blame it on me.

I’ve been painting cars for years, my first jobs were pretty bad, but with experience and a good gun I got much better. Buy a new good gun, it will make a huge difference in your results.

I must have spent 3 hours watching utube vids on prepping, single stage painting, cleaning guns, adjusting and setting up the gun, air pressure, paint volume, spray fan....Hearing the same info from different voices really helped make things more clear for me, the process made more sense, info sinks in, confidence builds. In the beginning, when shooting primer i was satisfied if the primer came out of the gun and not always knowing what to adjust if it wasnt right. After the film sessions, I recleaned all my guns, re-adjusted, played with air pressures, played with fan patterns... got more comfortable, and felt more prepared. I decided i needed to lift the bus higher, give me more room, space for myself and the equipment to move. I lifted the back of the dolly on 4x4's, the front i lifted closer to 6 inches up. I started with the bottom front and worked my way back. I used 2 medium coats and a final wetter coat to finish it off. To anyone else who has painted the bottom of a bus w/o a rotisserie, you know this is a miserable little job. It is not easy to lay on your back using a gun meant to spray level, and spraying up, plus the heat tube, E-brake, steering mount, bumper mounts...all in the way. It was a freaking battle, i think i won. It isnt perfect, has just a couple small runs....just like it did when it left the factory. Smile Progress. Next is the back half and engine area.

Looks good. The underside is almost as bad as shooting inside the bus.

Crap! next is front floor, seat bases and divider from gas tank and rear seat, rear floor.
Thanks Dan!

Finished the back half of the underside, so the whole bottom of bus is in paint. Back, much like the front has all the heater tubes and smaller cable tubes/pipes in the way. I lifted the back off the dolly and up on jack stands to get to those spots, will need to do the same up front. Moving forward.

Either I forgot OCTO was Saturday or I decided to skip it and get some more painting done. The need was stronger to get closer to done with the paint job. Im treating the paint job like eating an elephant, one small bite at a time, easier for the less experienced IMO. Spent Saturday getting paint on the lower part of spare tire hole and the tool box, then masked off for the floor. Nice day Sunday but wind was on the weather report. Started early and got the front floor finished well before the wind hit my area. Here is how she looks sometime during the process of 2 medium coats and one last wet coat to finish. Seems the only time to stop and take a pic or two is while waiting for the paint to flash off.

I have the rear floor and then the inside touch ups are complete. So rear floor starts tomorrow then I only have 3 gates, 3 doors and the body. Kevin @ KCR should be done with trans next week too.

Nice day to paint the floor in back, one more item off the list, and a wrap on the inside and underside. I have gates and doors next on the schedule after a trip to the paint shop for lacquer thinner/gun cleaner.

Gates are painted and stored away in the "done" room. I have a few small runs but pretty good overall. Paint covers well, sprays well and im pleased with my choice on the PPG Essential line. Recc flash time is 10 minutes, ive been giving the paint 20-30 minutes to flash off and i think this helps the inexperienced get a better final finish. ...but what do I know? I will need to sand out the imperfections but this was 100% expected on a first paint job. Did i mention ive never color sanded either...or buffed. Painting, its a process, a long one. A real long one with dips, valleys and successes. Still, progress.
