30 is usually the power coming in. 85 or 86 is typically grounded. Not sure on the headlight switch.
Is there a terminal 31 on your switch?

I'm really no help.
What year is your van? You could look up the wiring diagram. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

I don't have it in-front of me, yet I think there is a 31 on a terminal. The switch came out of 1987 van, yet my build does not have the harness, so im hard wiring into home made harness.
Bentley doesn't help because it identifies wire colors and not terminals from what i can see. _________________ I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the internet

If I am reading Bentley correctly there is no ground wire coming from the headlight switch. Power goes to the switch at terminal 30 and goes out to the different lights and is grounded at the lights. _________________ 91 Carat, automatic, GW 2.2, GW EFI, Peloquin TBD

I was wondering if that's a possibility. I've been looking like crazy and nothing is coming up. _________________ I'm not a mechanic, I just play one on the internet

That's normally how headlight switches work. And most other switches, too. A single-pole light switch in your house walls works like that, too!
The only reason there would be a ground there is if the switch itself was lighted. I don't recall the headlight switch in our 1982 being lighted. |

The picture of the switch the OP posted has a hole for a for a light, so I assume it has a backlight in that model.
The vendors all show two types of switches depending on year. _________________ 89 Westy 2.1 Auto |

Assuming that the lamp/socket assembly attaches to that hole, then there still wouldn't be a ground on the switch itself; the ground would be on the lamp-socket assembly, no? |
