Short Story.....

Last week I was ordering a part for another project. I had been looking at the Catuo Tent Awning Rooftop Shelter which is on Ebay. I had this item in my basket because I was comparing it. Well I was in a rush when I ordered my other item, click, click, bang I had ordered both, and did not notice until later when I got an email, saing congraudulations your item has been shipped.

Yeah stupid me. Anyway, I know I could return it, but have decided to try it out. ( it was pretty cheap).

Question, anyone ever mount one of these? If so, what mount to use? Once you stop laughing please help. Lol

Looks similar, even price wise to the Yescom unit which has a recent thread here.
Both are essentially knockoffs of the ARB awning and mount similarly.

Search on these & you'll find plenty of discussion...

Cool

PS: since you have it, please give us a review re: quality, function, etc...!!!???

I mounted mine with some brackets i made. They slip into the ends of some yakima load bars and are secured by a couple pins. Id be happy to email/text some pics if youd like Wink

Ok the awning came in. So far looks pretty good. The back has slots to slide the heads of bolts in. (Picture below). This mount ( F45VW-T3) from Gowestly looks like it might work. Any thoughts?

Ok solved my problem. GW gutter mounts worked perfectly. What a high quality product. I learned alot, older vanagons i believe 1980-1983 have a curved gutter (you can feel and see the curve if your wondering). Some gutter mounts will not work with the curved gutters. So... problem solved. I did not use the supplied rivet nut (rivenut). My awning is small, I wont be doing any off roading, plus I feel I could hang from my awning and it feels its very secure.

Thank you GW

Those Go Westy pieces look to be direct copies of the TransAwn mounts.

On my van I put some little squares of rubber inner tube between the lower part and the paint to prevent scratching.

congrats
yes, I agree that pulling down on the awning felt secure on my van also

you may however want to confirm that lifting UP on it does not move the Bottom of the bracket off the body of the van.. iow, bounce up and down..

that is why there is a hole that is intended to be fastened to the body

like you, I avoided adding a hole in the van body, result, my gutter got deformed a bit. I did go offroad, so probably more force than you will experience driving pavement

enjoy your Awning!Smile

yeah it's ok to put holes really.
the factory did it all over the place..
and if the factory installed an awning..
they'd put a rivnut there too.

you can and will do more damage just using the westy than adding the rivnut ever will do. that's job is for uplift..

just treat the fresh cut on the metal with a light brush of clear paint to seal the new surface.
