I am repairing my 1964 bug (bought for $150 in 1975!). See picture. I can't find any replacement parts for the Y pipe, or the pipe that goes from the Y to the flex hose. Suggestions? Does the '68 + Heater Junction pipe that is available fit ok? The picture shows one good Y, and the stub of the rusted off pipe going to the flex hose.
Second question: The inner structure of both quarter panels is gone...connects the inner quarter panel to the heater channel. I see no replacements available...suggestions? I assume most just fabricate a piece of sheet metal to fit, but have not found any pics. Any pictures or suggestions appreciated.

WELCOME to TheSamba.com!
Ya might consider the classified ads to find the correct pieces . . . here's a possibility . . . https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1915119
Here is a '69 . . . the "Y" pipe is very different . . . as you can see, the connection there is oval-shaped on the later Bugs . . . It uses a "Bakelite" tube that bolts into the hole . . . it is difficult to get it in there with the body in place!
As you already know, your '64 has a round steel tube welded there . . . _________________ Jesucristo es mi Seņor y Salvador! |

Thanks! Good suggestion for body parts. Being in Michigan, there is nothing but rust available.
If you can see in the picture, I replaced the cross member ...it now has the oval hole...I am thinking the later model Bakelite piece might just fit the bill. I can then fabricate the transition to the good Y (on the drivers side). I do not have a Y from the Passenger side as it was completely rotted away. Easy enough to fabricate a functional replacement.
Anyone out there used the later model Bakelite junction pipe on the earlier bugs? |
