Opened the relay box on my 83 1/2 today to get at the relays and the seal around the rim might as well have been a roll of dried up clay. Wondering what others have done to fix this? |

Interested also. Mine has no seal at all. _________________ 83.5 WBX 2WD Assuan Brown Westy, B.O.B.

I recently, "ahem", misplaced that seal for one of my relay boxes.
Haven't tried but is there a large O ring that could be used here? Cut and spot glue?

Clean the groove real well with rubbing alcohol and then run a thin bead of RTV in there while in the open position. Let set overnight and Bob's yer Auntie. _________________ Casey--

I was figuring I might go that route. |

the original seal is a high compliance rubber. o ring might be too hard to gt the lid to snap down. just wipe a piece of string or yarn with rubber cement and push it in the groove. it'll keep enough dust and water out for whats in there..

Right. I see what you mean. Agreed.
As a side note, that OE seal must really work well. I'm re-assigning wires an '85 box. The connections and wire strands look very clean.

mine had shrunk, come loose and drooped down, allowing dust into the box. glued it back into place and filled in the gap between the ends with RTV.
EVERYTHING has shrunk on my van... trim, engine lid seals, pop top seal, skylight seal, etc. life with antiques.
