Engine only starts if I give it gas during ignition. Will initially stall on idling out of driveway etc unless gas is maintained. Once van gets some speed, engine maintains, wants to stall at under 5 mph, stops etc.

Alternator? Fuel system?

Battery light stays on initially at start until I rev the engine rpms up.

99 Eurovan 144,000 mi

Thanks for any suggestions!

fix the bat light issue first and see if that clears it up.

unless the alternator has a bearing issue you can just replace the back part for $60 or so. bat light comes on if voltage is really really low. alternator should provide enough power even at idle so... something is up there. it's either the alternator or wiring. because it's fine at higher RPM i'd venture it's not wiring.

and... maybe bat issues is related to stalling or maybe not... either way it needs to be fixed and you might just solve both issues.

Good copy on all. Had battery checked, 100% good.

I’ll move on to the alternator and get it checked.

Also of note, at an idle, if I “spike” the rpm’s, when the rpm’s drop back to idle, the engine wants to stall out. Sounds like the alternator is just not keeping up at baseline idle.

Thanks for previous help!

Forgot to mention initially, a few weeks before the idle issue, the yellow/orange “transmission” light had been turning on intermittently, as it still continues to do.

i just had my ‘93 fixed for the same issue. it was a leak in one of the vacuum lines. apparently this is a common issue.

Could be map sensor / computer/fuel pressure regulator clogged up catelac converters . I just spent about 5 grand on mine and still does same thing....
