I wonder if you are able to help. I want to test a 6v VDO clock that I have. I have seem a clip on Youtube on how to test but it doesn't seem to give the full picture. It advises to use 5 AA batteries as the power source but does not indicate where the + and - wires attach. Can anyone advise. I have attached a picture of the unit I want to test.

The positive is the terminal in the center of the back.
The ground would be one of the 2 mounting points in the side where you see a thumbscrew and a bracket.
Voltage:
AA batteries are normally 1.5v so you would use 4 to get 6 volts to test it but I believe NiMH (rechargeable) batteries can be lower (1.2v) so maybe that is why you saw 5.
I found this video, maybe the one you saw?
