Bentley states 18 ft/lbs for M12 x 1.5 case nuts

wilson says 25 ft/lbs

who is correct?

Yes it does say in the torque specs toward end of chapter 18 ft lbs.
Now if you read the notes on page 42 under step 10 it says the 18 ft lbs is for the sealing nuts used between 1971-1973.
For using plain nut the spec is 25 ft lbs as used on 1970 and earlier engines.
The sealing nut was and interesting idea, but proved not to really work out.
I found that using them in the 1970s on rebuilding engine they really did not work well and with out a washer being use the edge of the nut dug into the case when you were torquing them. Went back to using the regular nuts and washers in a short period of time. And just use sealant between washer and case.

Wanted to show off my OG 65 edition Bentley volume 1&2. I’ve had these for 20 years... pages are still in awesome shape, covers a little rough. So cool to look through!

Cool, you don't see the paperback ones as often as the binders

Yeah, they don’t come out often, but I’ve been working on a transmisson so I needed the info. I’m always careful when I open them up or carry them. I keep them stored nicely so they’ll be around when my sons take over the care of the dubs😁
