While on our cross-country adventure, we were hit by a drunk driver who fled the scene and left us stranded in the desert on 160 West on May 24th. We were locked in a tow yard for 3 days and have been stuck in Page, AZ ever since. We were finally able to order parts and are waiting to get the fixes on our bus, so we can keep bussing on.
We wanted to thank everyone who has helped us on our other thread and provided knowledgeable information. The Samba community stepped up and really pointed us in the right directions. THANK YOU!!
Here is the video from our ordeal:

While on our cross-country adventure, we had hoped to make it to the West Coast for our 8 year wedding anniversary and our 1 year anniversary of travel, but after being hit by a car in the Arizona desert, our plans changed. We managed to make it to the nearest town, Page AZ, for repairs on our '78 bus. Although we had already visited this area before winter, this time we experienced Lake Powell, Wahweap Beach and Lone Rock for a few days to rest up and celebrate our love. We hope everyone enjoys our video and stays tuned, as we get back on the road and head West! - Peace & Love

X2, I used to go Lake Powell every May for many years and rent a house boat for a week. The scenery is paradise ( good place to read some Edward Abbey ) Then I got hammered by the Utah state patrol on a check point around a blind curve near Bull Frog. Last time I ever drove in Utah.
Enjoy and have a safe journey to the West coast. I'm sure the 'Zeattle" scene will be calling. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Tcash - Thank you!!
Manfred58sc - We saw tons of house boats! They look like fun! A few people have recommended Seattle. We've never been, but may just have to check it out!

Does Seattle still have a “Bus scene”?
Portland does

The Fremont district in Seattle is a good place to land once you get that far. Portland and Eugene are also must stop destinations along the way. I hope to see a Vegas installment ( its always tasty to listen to AC/DC "Sin City" when driving into town at night for the first time ). The town is very open to camping. In my mind there are 3 US cities that truly cater to human desires of interaction- L.V., S.F., and the Big Easy.

Xevin - Thank you for mentioning Portland and thank you for the link! It would be exciting to connect with other VW bus folk!
Manfred58sc - We'll check out the Freemont district in Seattle, Portland and Eugene when we make it up there! Thanks for your thoughts, as always!

After 24 days stranded in the desert, waiting for our VW bus to get fixed from the car accident, we were finally able to get back on the road and keep heading West! We made our way to Utah and found some much needed peace at Zion National Park, a beautiful stop on our cross-country adventure. - Peace & Love

We saw you guys in Pagosa Springs today, you were making a left onto 160. We just came out of The Rose Restaurant. I was waiving like an internet groupie, but you guys didn’t see me. . I got in my bus and headed east to try and find you guys. I drove to the eastern edge of town and turned around at the big pull off, no luck finding you guys. That rear drivers corner looks horrible, not my business but you might wanta hook up with Manfred while your back in Colorado and get that fixed properly.
Did you guys go to the Folk Festival? We spent 6 days and 5 nights camping there. We were vending my wife’s jewelry, man do I like that festival.
Safe travels

richparker - We wish we had seen you waving!! We made it to the West Coast and because of the fires up North, we headed East. We got to Pagosa right before the Folk Festival and stayed at a friend's house, where we could see the tents on the mountain. We could even hear some of it and we can't believe you and your wife were over there! Camping must have been a blast and we'd love to see some of the jewelry!
The damage from the car accident isn't pretty, but you should have seen it before the initial repairs. We've spent so much dough on fixes that the cosmetics have been last on our list. First, we need to get a new front seal put in. Everything else is pretty sound at this point, thank goodness.
Thanks for writing Rich P! Peace & Love - The Lills _________________ Best,

After a peaceful time at Zion National Park, we made it to Las Vegas, Nevada! Neither of us had ever been there and we weren't quite sure what to expect. For being non-drinkers and not all that into gambling, we were surprised by how much fun we had. We saw the iconic Bellagio fountains and a very funny Vegas show, we played games at Circus Circus and we took a ride on the High Roller Ferris Wheel, we visited Old Las Vegas (Fremont Street) and we renewed our wedding vows at The Little White Wedding Chapel. It was the honeymoon we never had and an adventure we'll never forget. - Peace & Love

Hey! What fun! Vegas will accommodate any level of participation, from mild to wild. I saw the Dead there 2X in the early 90's and was amazed how well the town handled the chaotic influx. To the locals and staff it was just another convention ( and not nearly as troublesome as the Shriners.. ). Fires on the sidewalk outside Circus Circus ? No problem. Camping in the parking lot ? Its all good. Trippin' balls in the casino? How about a $1.99 breakfast to calm you down. I'll probably never get back there now, but all the memories of the many trips were great.
Thanks for sharing, your travel kitty is just wonderful to see. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |
