You can do some careful investigation to find the color of your car. Look in the trunk, under carpet, behind the dash, in the engine compartment, etc. If you know the car color, then you can find the original interior because they usually only had one option. Of course for approximately $80 you can get a birth certificate from VW and it will tell you everything about your car, but they aren't always correct.

Vintage VW vins aren’t like modern day vins. They are really little more than sequential serial numbers. Originally these cars came with color code tags in the trunk which in turn would tell you the interior color as mentioned, but they were paper and disappeared long ago in most cases.
