Am considering the purchase of these seat for the sand rail:

But I am confused about the mounting options that are offered. Slider/tilt? Slider/slider? What's a slider/slider? Why is getting a sliding/tilting mount more than twice as much as a slider? Is the tilt to the front or back, or both? Is having a tilting seat that much better? I'm thoroughly confused. |

Tilt means you can tilt the seat forward to access behind them. So if they were in a bug you could tilt the seat up for someone to get in the back. |

Ah. I was thinking the tilt might mean the entire seat would pivot back like a recliner. Which would be comfy, but make it kind of hard to drive. Your explanation makes far more sense. Thanks for the insight. |

Tilt would be mentioned in seat spec if seat back tilted, since its mentioned in slider it would mean whole seat tilts on sliders... With buggy I don't really think you need tilt...
Slider and mounts are exorbitantly high priced its probably to push up profit because seats look to be prices extremely low...
More economical priced sliders and adapters here....

Yeah, the price of those seats almost seems to good to be true. I'm actually a little leery that the quality of the seats will not be that great considering the cost. Its really all that's preventing me from ordering them today.
The link to the other sliders looks promising. Thanks for the tip! |

I've actually heard pretty good things about the race trim seats, thinking about getting some myself. |

If going into a rail, you might run into headroom issues. Poly seats bolted to the floorpan left me no headroom, 6'tall @225#. Made my own solid mounts for suspension seats (and raised roll bars 3")

Good point. I'm a few inches short of 6', but I've still got to consider helmet clearance and whatnot. Plus I'd rather keep the center of gravity low as possible. I am planning to stay away from those pre-made 6" seat mounts and fabricate something without so much height. |

I'm not sure how well you can view it from this pic, but I'm 6'-1" and ran into the whole seat height problem as well. What compounded my issue is that my rail is an older and rather small Chenowth that was really designed for the short thin fiberglass seats of the 70s & 80s. When I went to Poly seats it raised the height a bit leaving me little to no room for head space...In fact I can remember hitting my head on the bar before making the below modification. All I did was buy some 2" channel and weld it in place at an angle which dropped it well below the floor line. This was fine for me as I don't like taking it over major rough areas where I might bottom out... so that's something to consider. If you think you'd be driving over logs and ditches, potentially bottoming out, it might be hell on your spine.

These seats sit as low as you can go...fully adjustable, don't weight much and can get them from any PT Cruiser for cheap at the wrecking yard. ...headrest or no headrest. ...and they are true suspension seats.
I picked these up for less than 60 bucks!...the tracks are very low profile and are flat across for mounting onto a flat surface. |
