Hello, I just bought another 1972 ghia, and want to get it ready to paint but would like to fix this door misalignment issue first. Everything seems even except the rear bottom portion and i’m at a loss as to what to do. I do know the front left fender has been replaced at some point in the past. Any thought?

If the front of the door is flush with the front fender at the top and bottom then your only option is to “tweak” the door. Open the door, place the side of your knee against the lower edge & then pull the top of the door toward your hip. This may take some force & it’s pretty much done by feel. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

I see, thanks for the advice, i was thinking about tweeking the bottom but was afraid it would wrinkle the bottom portion. Your idea makes more since, since the tweak is over a bigger area. Thanks! I’ll try it tomorrow _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

SShhhhh, ignorance is bliss, if it's that obvious, you know what's there, & you also know it'll ALWAYS be worse than you think.
I bought a Volvo 122 once that I rescued from a 20 year slumber in a barn, it had 3/8" to 1/2" "skim" of bondo over the ENTIRE car, after stripping it, it looked like the car spent the first ten years of it's life under a dump chute at a gravel pit. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

As much as I agree with Chris....
I would strip the door/fender down before tweaking anything. It looks like a plump marshmallow (plenty of filler). Tweak after you can see what you have. |
Wow, good eye! Lol

I pulled and yanked but just couldn't get it to fit right. So I replaced the door with a non-muddled up door off my other 72. Much better. Just ordered door wedges from kgp&r so I can door the final alignment, although to be honest I'm not sure what their purpose is _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |
