Hi team,
I'm trying to balance the carbs on my 77 Bay (dual solex) and noticed the the RHS throttle stop isn't closing / returning completely.
I can't see any reason why it wont return properly. Just wondering if anybody has had a similar problem and how they fixed it? The springs seem fine - i even tried swapping them as the LHS closes fine, but made no difference. It's making it impossible to balance the carbs.
I've posted a video here. The first shot is of the RHS and then I move to the LHS where you can see it closes fine.
(when you see the RHS closing, it's actually me that's pushing it closed).

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Either linkage is not allowing it to close or throttle shaft is in bind... Remove throttle linkage and see if throttle shaft closes smoothly, if so then you need to adjust linkage, you should be able to remove and reconnect linkage WITHOUT disturbing closed position of throttle shaft, if shaft moves reconnecting linkage, linkage is adjusted wrong...

It take a lot of patience and fiddling to get linkage correctly matched to what carburetor wants (closed position) when tuned properly...

I had the same problem with my dual 40 carbs where one side wouldn't hit the stop without a little help. Took a while to figure it out lol. I think he needs to shorten the linkage rod on the side that does close completely, the re balance the carbs.

Disconnect the linkage, and try again.
If that doesn't work, then the throttle shaft is out of center. Usually tapping the shaft lightly front to back until you center the butterfly in the bore fixes it.

Thanks all. I was so frustrated with it at the time, I didnt even think to try removing the adjustable throttle arm to see if that was the problem.
It's running great at high revs, but not completely balanced at idle. It will be a shame to mess with the high rev settings, but I'll see what happens when i remove the throttle linkage.
I will report back with how I go. Thanks Team Samba!

Well, you guys were right!
It was the adjustable throttle arm on the RHS. It was too long.

I re-adjusted the balance at idle and high revs and happy days!

Thanks for your help! Smile
