are these original hubcaps? I was under the impression originals only had one drain hole. Also it looks like there might be chrome on the inside under the primer/oil?

There are heavyweight, German repros from the 1970s, with a single puller hole, that are often advertised as originals. These are found in both primed and chromed versions.

I’ve found that original German hubcaps, the “puller holes” were always located at the 12 & 6 o’clock positions

I bought the caps, and I would like to know what I got.

Could someone who has for sure original early hub caps weight them and measure the width of the logo stamp?

These are 465 g each, and the width is approx 7.6 mm.

And yes, they were chromed and sprayed over.

Mika, here are some photos of my, what I believe to be original paint, big logo caps (set of four)

pressing seems to be about 8mm although it varies ever-so-slightly.

weight is right around 554g +/-

The black one is definitely an original. Needs to have one hole. Weight above 500g and the part where it fits the wheel should have a 90 degrees angle.

The ones from Virtanen are unfortunately repro.

would you be kind enough to remove one from your march 49 beetle and take some photos for us?

yes, on mine the flange that is hidden when installed is almost 90 degrees and taller than the angled flange on Mika's

Mika's repros have the same shape of the Taiwanese 356 repro hubcaps from the 1980s.
