I’ve been looking everywhere for the weight of a Meyers Manx body (just the bare fibreglass shell) and can’t seem to find it. When I contacted Meyers Manx, they were pretty vague, saying it’d be over 500lbs. I’m planning a trip to California later this spring and would to bring one back on the top of my truck canopy. Trailer is not an option as I’ll have my travel trailer with me. Anyone know? |

It depends on which Meyers Manx body you are want as to what it will weigh.
There are several different ones
The Classic should weigh about 150lbs as that was what a Manx II weigh back in the day.
The Kick Out a little more and a Manxter a lot more. _________________ Joseph

Don't have real numbers for a body, but with my clone I was able to step inside and lift it by my self.... Just be sure its really secure, lot of bad aerodynamics up there...

Back in the 1960s when Bruce was making the original bodies, they weigh them when they came out of the molds. If they were to light, back they went to have more glass put on, to heavy and you got ask what the hell happen.
Pretty every clone I seen and had experience with were lighter then a real Meyers Manx. _________________ Joseph

I believe Bruce said that when they weighed each body it should have weighed about 130#s. With the hood maybe another 20 lbs |

Totally agree on the weight - my wife and I were able to easily move a Berrien manx style body all around the shop when I built the last buggy here. If you are getting a shipping weight, then its probably on a big pallet which will add a lot of weight. _________________ D-Dubya Manx clone - 63 Short pan,1914.

The Meyers company produced bodies as fast as they could back in the glory days and while I can agree that most Manx bodies were pretty solid, that changed with the Manx II when it came out as a low cost solution. They were thinner and not the weight of the earlier bodies for sure.
The 130 pound estimates are very close for the fiberglass body alone, the 500 pound estimate must be for a Manxter with all of the metal parts?
The new Classic Manx bodies while styled after the Manx II are very nice, and weight might be more in line with the early Manx bodies and not the later production stuff when the company changed. _________________ Boston Bob E.

I could take the canopy off, but it’s a Tacoma with a 6’ box. Having the body in the bed would stick out the back and interfere with the trailer I’m towing. Realistically if the body is under 250lbs I can easily carry it on my canopy and roof rack. I’m trying to combine picking up the body with our trip to Moab and Vegas. |

So just an update. Instead of renting a little travel trailer for our trip, I bought Roof Top Tent to use instead. I booked a U-Haul trailer to bring the Manx body and accessories back up to Canada. Showed up at U-Haul to find they did not have a trailer for me. So the Manx end up on the roof with the roof top tent stowed inside the canopy. Other than being a little over weight, arrived home in one piece.
Here we are stopping for a quick bite just outside Death Valley.

That is awesome. Glad you made it back safely. I was up Trepanier road in Peachland the last two days hauling rocks to protect the Sicamous sternwheeler in Penticton.
Good luck with your build. _________________ My wife said I never listen to her.
