Hello good people of The Samba!
I have a 1972 Bus with a rebuilt 2000cc Type 4 motor. It’s currently running dual Kadron 40s with some funky handmade linkage from the previous owner. It’s improperly jetted and probably barely synced at best. I’m consistently getting just under 15mpg on average. I’m going to replace them with Dual Webers with CB linkage and have it setup by air cooled.net so I can start fresh with all new all quality components.
I’m stuck between 34ICTs and 40IDFs. I’m not afraid to spend the extra money on IDFs to do it right the first time but it is a consideration. Do IDFs really offer that much more power and fuel economy than ICTs to make them worth it? My bus is a daily driver, so I’m looking for drivability and simplicity instead of maximum power. Can ICTs make me happy?
Thank you! _________________ 1972 Baywindow

40IDFs
They much better carbs than the 34's and probably fit your engine size better as well. Let John know the particulars for the jetting of them to fit your engine.
I have 44IDF's on my 2276. Great carbs. _________________ Contact me at [email protected]

Thanks for the advice! That seems to be the standard thought. Could you please expand on the specific benefits other than some people out there incorrectly saying bigger is always better? _________________ 1972 Baywindow

I just went through the same decision as you deciding between the ICTs and dual 40 IDFs. I went with the IDFs from aircooled.net and also purchased John's clean and jet service so the carbs would be ready to go.
Be aware that even with the carb setup option they are not plug and play. I have been trying to get mine running properly for over a month but still don't have it running good enough to drive yet.
I have been trouble shooting with John, who is very accessible and helpful. Also, many suggestions from the talent on this forum but now I am at the point of trying to find a local shop that can tune these things.
I hear they are great carbs for the 2.0, Hopefully I get to experience their greatness one day! |

40 IDFs all the way... I have used a lot of IDFs on past motors, and have a set of 40's on my 2.0 T4 in my late bay. They run great. I'll also second getting the CB linkage, as the linkage can make or break a set of carbs. _________________ Fightin' Texas Aggie Class of 2006

I am working on installing a set of the 40's also.
Which 'CB linkage' are you all talking about. Is it the center pull set up or the hex bar? |

It's been a while but I pulled the trigger on Weber 40IDFs and they are going in this weekend! Thank you to all of you for your inputs. _________________ 1972 Baywindow
