Hello everyone. I am in the process of restoring a 71 camper and I just replaced the brake booster hoses and brake servo check valve.
The bus has not been started for about 1 1/2 months and now with all new vacuum hoses and new check valve the bus will not stay running.
I tried adjusting the carb idle crew and even played with the timing and it does not react to these changes. It starts fine and has good throttle response but will not stay running unless I step on the gas. It was running fine before I did these repairs. I included a picture of the hose connection at the intake manifold and the direction the check valve is facing. Has a single port engine and previously the vacuum port on the intake had a plug since the vacuum hoses were rotten and had no check valve.
I will appreciate any advice since I am lost here, thank you!

I would start with a shor section of hose and something to plug the end with, then I'd install that on the manifold and see if it still runs crappy. If it doesn't there's a leak in your new hose or valve, if it still runs bad the carb has likely been adjusted to compensate for a leak in the old hoses and might need leaning as well as opening up of the larger adjustment screw. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

Thanks for the advice Busdaddy. Previously the brake booster system hose was not installed since the hoses were rotten away. I do have a plug which I was using before for the intake, I will remove the hose form the intake and install plug and look for changes.
Is there a possibility of the brake booster leaking? Thant is the only part of the complete brake system that I did not replace. It does feel nice and soft with good stopping power when I moved it back and forward in the garage. |

Yes, could have been why it was disconnected, or it could have died from lack of use. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

A vacuum gage will tell you wonders, less than 18 in. vacuum at idle indicates bad booster or leak. Put your foot on brake with motor running and shut it off ,if it sinks down its the booster. |

Thanks for the advice Starbucket, I will follow it and report back. The engine that is currently in has low compression as well. That may also have something to do with the problem. |
