Please see the picture below. The mechanism on the right is a working 67 one. The one on the left is a 65 that is missing the piece that hooks on the catch. I want to put the 67 in my 65 door but the opening is too small. Can I just take the plate with a shelf on the top and bottom off the 67 and put the 65 plate in its place so it can fit through the opening? This is what I have been trying to do but I cant figure out how to get this mechanism apart. is it even possible to disassemble it?
Thanks

Original 67 door latches are not easy to come by. Agree with Clara - get the right part.

Just file the door's opening triangle part at the bottom flat across and the '67 latch will fit.

Doesn’t the 67 also have a different striker?

Yes the strike is two-screw and the b-pillar stamping and nut-plate accommodate it but the strike pin is the same dimensions and in the same location.

Thanks Barry. I filed it down. Came out perfect and looks factory. It works with no issues.

Good. It's safer now as the '67 was improved to anti-burst on impact.
