Both turn signals come on when I use left or right.

Let me try to clarify:

Yes, both of the turn signal indicator lights in the fuel gauge come on at the same time and blink at the same time regardless of whether you selected right or left turn with the turn signal stalk.

Of course, on the outside of the car, only the turn signal bulbs on whatever side you selected should blink.
