I use this manual and the Bentley. Some directions seem clearer in one and some don't. I have gone back and forth between the two.
I also have others, they all have their purpose. |

Hi! I recently bought a 65KG. I'd say wait until you buy the car to buy the right Bentley book for your year.
As far as choosing a year, I like the look the of the 60's KGs over the look of the later or earlier KGs. If there was a choice, I would get a later 68-69KG for the combination of larger engine, ball joint front (vs. link pin set up), standard front disc brakes, and IRS rear set up, while still retaining the older style front turn signals and rear tail lights (personal choice this). But, I do prefer the older style light colored dash switches (which were only on the cars till 66).

I also would recommend waiting until after you get your Ghia to buy a repair manual so you can get the right one for your Ghia. As far as the manuals themselves, I have both the Bentley and Haynes for my Ghia and both for my '72 Campmobile. They are each very good manuals but each one goes through repair procedures a bit differently. Sometimes I follow Bentley, sometimes I follow Haynes. _________________ Brad Spear

Have you looked at sites other than Craig's List? _________________ Brad Spear

It doesn't matter where you buy...as long as you do your homework and get an experienced Ghia person to examine it. Either someone here will volunteer to assist you or you can pay a Ghia specialist to examine it. The more you're prepared to pay for the car the more you should spend on having it examined. MyGhia was advertised on Craigslist and I got a top expert to check it out. _________________ John.

It's true that it doesn't matter where you buy from, I was suggesting looking in other avenues to determine what more is available than just Craig's List. Sometimes the best deal is there, and sometimes not. _________________ Brad Spear

This is a good book about Karmann Ghia's: https://www.amazon.com/Volkswagen-Karmann-Ghias-Ca...5KF29A6N8W
The 1972 and the blue 1968 both look great to me - 1968 is a good year because you get the later brakes, suspension and engine but it still has the small tail lights, but the 1972 is half the price of the other one. _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

So a body off bare metal respray with all new rubbers and reupholstered interior is not a restoration? _________________ 1962 Karmann Ghia

To me, if it's not back to stock condition it's not a restoration. Anything else is a restomod or custom. _________________ Brad Spear

I get it but I have a problem with definitions. What exactly is meant by "stock"?
Original paint?
Original carpets?
Original everything down to the last screw, nail and bolt?
There are too many perishable items in our cars for which original replacements are unavailable.
It seems to me that the best we can hope for is for our Ghias to be in near-original condition after a reconditioning, and as with most human endeavours, that is as near perfection as we shall ever get. That is to say, if "stock" is our aim. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
